What is Disc Golf?

Disc golf is an outdoor sport played with discs (Frisbees). Your goal is to get the disc into the basket with the minimum number of throws.

Disc golf has similar rules to ball golf. You drive from the t-pad and get as far as you can toward the basket (hole). You then make your upshot to try to get within putting distance. You then putt the disc into the basket (if you're lucky or good). You try to get as low of a score as possible.

The original discs were called Frisbees and many people still refer to disc golf as Frisbee golf. A Frisbee is a name brand of disc, manufactured by Mattel (formally Wham-O) who also manufactures golf discs.

Discs for disc golf come in many designs. In general they are flatter and heavier than a disc you would use for playing catch. This allows you to get more distance. Discs are manufactured with many different flight characteristics and a disc golfer will carry a disc bag with all his favorite discs, much as a ball golfer would carry a golf bag with many clubs.

There are disc golf courses all over the country. If you've never played, look up the course nearest you under the Professional Disc Golf Association Official PDGA Course Directory. Most courses have a pro that sells or rents discs and most courses are free to play.
